Life Expectancy of Children with Leukemia In Indonesia: A Systematic Review

Leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children. The prevalence of cancer in Indonesia ranges from 2-4%. This study aims to provide an overview of the life expectancy of children with leukemia and the impact of non-pharmacological therapy interventions. This research was conducted by searching the accessible articles through garuda.kemdibud.go.id database, published between 2020-2025, and meeting specified inclusion criteria. The research process followed the PRISMA flowchart. A total of 817 articles were found, 274 articles were selected, 59 articles were chosen, and 12 articles were used as the research result. Chemotherapy has a physical, psychological, and social impacts. Non-pharmacological therapy may influence psychological aspects during the leukemia treatment process, support the successful therapy, and improve the hope as well as the quality of life for children with leukemia. Non-pharmacological therapies that can be performed include sleep hygiene and relaxation before bedtime, motivation and counseling, cognitive games, slow deep breathing therapy, storytelling methods, which combine with interactive and cooperative games. Social support from family, relatives, and peers can be provided in the form of emotional support, tangible support, informational support, and companionship support.
