Analysis of Bed Efficiency Indicators Based on the Barber Johnson Graph at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, East Java, 2022–2024

The efficiency of bed utilization is one of the key indicators in assessing the quality of inpatient services in hospitals. This study aims to analyze bed efficiency indicators at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, East Java, for the period 2022–2024 using the Barber Johnson chart approach. The research design applied was descriptive retrospective, utilizing secondary data from the daily inpatient census. The analysis focused on four main indicators: Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR), Length of Stay (LOS), Turn Over Interval (TOI), and Bed Turn Over (BTO). The results showed that BOR during 2022–2024 remained below the efficiency standard of 75–85%, with values of 58.5%, 66.9%, and 66.2%, respectively. LOS was within the efficiency range of 3–12 days, with values of 6.0 days (2022), 5.4 days (2023), and 5.3 days (2024). TOI in 2022 was inefficient at 4.2 days but improved in 2023 and 2024 to 2.7 days and 2.8 days. BTO was efficient throughout the study period, with values of 36.1 times (2022), 45.3 times (2023), and 45.7 times (2024). The Barber Johnson chart indicated that bed utilization remained outside the efficiency zone, although improvements were observed in 2023 before declining again in 2024 due to a decrease in BOR. The study concludes that bed utilization efficiency at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital has not yet been fully achieved.
