Cases of ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG) contamination in syrup preparations have raised public concern regarding the safety of self-medication. Health education is required to improve knowledge and promote rational attitudes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of face-to-face education on knowledge and attitudes toward syrup self-medication. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest non-equivalent control group was applied. Seventy respondents were divided into an intervention group (n=35) receiving door-to-door face-to-face education and a control group (n=35) without intervention. The instrument was a validated and reliable questionnaire on knowledge and attitudes. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test with a significance level of p<0.05. Pretest results indicated that both groups had comparable baseline conditions (knowledge p=0.209; attitude p=0.153). Analysis of pretest–posttest differences showed significant improvements in the intervention group compared with the control, for both knowledge (p<0.001) and attitude (p<0.001). These findings demonstrate that face-to-face education is effective in enhancing knowledge and fostering positive attitudes toward syrup self-medication.
