Infections are the most deadly infectious diseases. High infection rates lead to higher antibiotic use. Cases of infection by bacteria make up the top ten cases that result in death. Therefore, potential bacterial agents are needed to overcome infection problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of fungi isolated from cattle pens in Tamanan, Banguntapan against several types of bacteria.
Fungal isolation was carried out by dilution using PDA media, and then purification of isolates and antibacterial activity tests were carried out. The method used in determining antibacterial activity in this study is the disc diffusion method which will be tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli, and Bacilus subtillis bacteria. Microscopic and macroscopic results of fungal isolates were processed descriptively. Antibacterial activity test results were compared between treatments statistically using the Kruskal-Wallis test.
The results showed that the three isolates did not have inhibition against S.aureus and E.coli bacteria. Isolate C1 (cattle barnyard soil fungus isolate) and isolate C4 (cattle barnyard soil fungus isolate) fall into the strong category in inhibiting S.mutans and B.subtillis. The diameter of the inhibition zone produced by Isolate C1 (cattle shed soil fungus isolate) was 11.67 mm and Isolate C4 (cattle shed soil fungus isolate) was 10.67 mm against Streptococcus mutans. The inhibition zone produced by Isolate C1 (cattle shed soil fungus isolate) was 11.17 mm and Isolate C2 (cattle shed soil fungus isolate) was 7.17 mm against B.subtillis.
